Rougher Tides Returns

Well, I made an announcement that I was reworking some of the issues with Rougher Tides. Thanks for being patient. I fixed some of the issues, though I imagine I have to fix more of it. Still, I posted up the next chapter in this book so far. I'm still writing it. I hope you are enjoying it! I have someone editing the first book in my series which I'm thankful for. I also just put Intrigued By First Sight up for Expanded Distribution via amazon and createspace. Go me!!!  Ha, ha. So yes, I hope you are enjoying what you are reading. I hope I get even more readers soon as well. If you have bought my book Intrigued by First Sight please leave me a review. I can really use those reviews. I know I'm annoying when it comes down to that.
I just drew a sketch of Honey and Jackie in my book Rougher Tides. I will post it here and please tell me if you like it or not. Okay the sketch may be a bit revealing but hopefully you do like the sketch. I will probably be using this as my cover unless I can come up with something better. Anyway, thank you for reading my work. I appreciate it and more stories are coming your way!

Rougher Tides (Chapter Eight)

Honey had just come home from teaching. She was surprised to see Jackie sitting on their living room couch. Shouldn’t she have been working? Weird. She set her things down and changed into sweats. She joined Jackie on their living room couch and smiled.
“So why are you home so early?” Honey asked.
Jackie smiled in turn. She gazed at her wife lovingly. She held a book up in her hands and Honey was shocked. The book was a self help guide to do it yourself artificial insemination.
“Um that doesn’t explain why you’re home early and Jackie?” Honey asked. “I know it’s been a few months since we last talked about children but why are you reading that?”
“I’m home early because I got out early. Extremely rare I know and no, it doesn’t sound realistic but it’s true. I also was waiting on you because I called Tom and said we have something we need to ask him.” Jackie explained.
“Wait? We’re meeting Tom today?” Honey asked and grew annoyed.
“No, not today. Whenever you’re ready Honey.” Jackie said.
“Hmm. Well thanks for that.” Honey said thoughtfully. “Right now, I just want to relax. Tomorrow is field day for my students.”
“Ah okay.” Jackie answered.
Honey sat down next to Jackie and cuddled into her. Jackie stroked Honey’s blond head and wrapped her arm around her lover. She was so glad Honey’s health issues were settled at least for the time being. She never expected that the natural remedies actually worked but they did and as a result Honey was actually more livelier because of it. Her skin almost seemed to glow and Honey had more energy than usual. Not to mention their sex was better than ever! She was happy Honey was in such better health. Honey had shown her some of the things she had found too and it opened Jackie up to numerous possibilities. Honey had indeed become one of those conspiracy theorists. She had gone with Honey to her very last doctor’s appointment a month ago and the doctors were shocked that she had no trace of ovarian cancer in her system. Honey had smiled at the time and said she found an alternative to the getting her uterus removed. The doctors had asked her what it was she had found and when she started explaining what it was, they had silenced her. Apparently, they didn’t want to hear it and had said she would regret it later on. This was when Honey went on a rampage at home but after realizing once more about her first grade class and the fact she didn’t want to give up teaching she sighed and had relented. That was also all the evidence Jackie needed to side with Honey on the case of doctors. Still, she didn’t know what to do. She didn’t want to be apathetic about it either but she was at a loss.
Right now though, spending time with her wife was the greatest gift in the world to her. She loved Honey dearly and she loved the closeness they shared. She smiled and kissed her lover’s head.
“Jackie?” Honey asked.
“Yes Honey?” Jackie replied.
“Saturday is when we should talk to Tom about him being a sperm donor for us.” Honey answered.
“Okay Honey, then on Saturday we shall have our sperm donor if he agrees to it!” Jackie said excitedly.
“Yes,” Honey said and smiled.
#
Honey was at the Millwood elementary school. She was standing alongside her fellow faculty members and hosting the games for their students. So far they were up to the potato sack races and she smiled as her students and the other students of the school raced each other. She had her stop watch on and stood next to one of the gym teachers who was also wearing a stop watch. He smiled at Honey and Honey flashed a smile back. One of her students had won the race and she applauded her. It was her student Keri.
As was custom for the first graders if they won, Honey had given the winners each a prize. She picked up the prizes from the local dollar store but still, it was something worth it for these children. She wasn’t about to buy them video game systems. That can be left to their parents. As much as she herself had played a video game from time to time she wasn’t about to spend three hundred on a system that a child would break within a month anyway. With the toys from the dollar store however, they were easily replaced and she didn’t have to replace the toys. That was their parents’ jobs and not hers.
“Thank you Mrs. Miller!” Keri said after Honey handed her a bubble set.
“You’re welcome Keri. Congratulations!” Honey said and smiled.
She walked over to Mr. Redfield who was leading the egg races with another handful of students in the first grade.  Mr. Redfield nodded towards her. Honey smiled and stood next to him.
“So how is everything?” Mr. Redfield said.
“Oh everything’s good.” Honey answered.
“Shouldn’t your husband be here?” Mr. Redfield asked.
Honey sighed. No matter what Dean Redfield asked about her “husband.” She was beginning to suspect he was interested in her and that made her cringe a bit on the inside. She was in love with Jackie and although she suspected Dean was a good man, he wasn’t for her.
“He is working. He’s a police officer.” Honey responded.
“You would think that even a police officer would take off to visit his wife on field day.” Dean said. “Still, as long as you’re happy with him.”
“I’m very happy with my husband Dean. We’re actually trying to have a child.” Honey said.
“Oh wow, that is most excellent.” Dean answered.
“Yes, it is.” Honey replied and suppressed a groan.
Damn, how she longed to be able to tell this man that she actually had a wife and not a husband. Still, she wouldn’t risk it. She knew in New York people were more accepting of gays and lesbians but at the same time, her memories of being discriminated against in the past had stuck with her. She shuddered involuntarily and Dean noticed.
“Honey are you okay?” Dean asked.
“Yes, yes, I’m fine. Sorry.” Honey said and watched the students.
“I really would like to meet your husband Honey.” Dean said. “I think we should go on a double date sometime? What do you think?”
“A double date?” Honey asked. “You’re seeing someone?” Honey was instantly relieved that Dean didn’t want her but at the same time a new fear came up. How was she going to get herself out of this one? She had no idea!
“Yes, why not? When your husband is free of course.” Dean said.
“Um I’ll have to think about it.” Honey said. “I’ll ask him later tonight.”
“Okay that’s great.” Dean smiled. “I can’t wait!”
After that Dean rewarded one of his own first graders with a prize. Honey looked at Dean. She was worried. How was she going to have a double date with Dean without bringing herself out of the closet in her work place? She had no idea! No idea at all. Maybe Jackie would help her figure out a way. She wanted her wife right now, she really did. She was terrified. It was possible that Dean held no grudges towards lesbians but she had been leading him on to believe she was straight even though she wasn’t. She sighed not knowing what to do about that. So she completed field day with her students and when she got home, she and Jackie would have to talk about it. Yes they definitely would need to talk about that.
#
Once she was home, she had dressed in a white bathrobe and made herself a mug of tea. She sat down at her desk and typed a bit. After, she was done she headed into the kitchen and wiped down the counters with a Clorox wipe. She swept the floor and also wiped down the kitchen table. She had absolutely no idea how to deal with Dean. She hoped Jackie would come up with a solution but what? It was true there were no more worries about discrimination towards LGBT people but she still held the fears of her past. The fears of not being accepted by others, being ridiculed against, being discriminated, and outright homophobia which is why she had always hidden her sexuality in the past. Still, she had become more open about herself when she met Jackie and she loved Jackie dearly. Maybe it was a useless insecurity she was going through but how could she be sure? She had no idea.
Jackie had eventually walked in the door and she noticed Honey was distressed. She would talk to her soon but right now a shower was needed. Yes, she wanted to relax from her current day at work. It ended up that Jacob Hunter had been released which made no sense since he did assault a police officer and a civilian but whatever. As long as there were no further incidents it shouldn’t matter. It should be fine. She was a believer that second chances were golden but there were circumstances in which she felt second chances should not have been given. This was one of them but perhaps she had misjudged.
After her shower, she headed downstairs dressed in bathrobe. She opened the refrigerator door and pulled out a yogurt and went to go sit down next to Honey in their living room. Honey glanced at Jackie and back to the TV.
“So what’s up?” Jackie asked after eating a spoonful of yogurt.
“A coworker of mine wants to go on a double date with us.” Honey said.
“That’s cool. Why not?” Jackie asked.
“He thinks you’re a man. I never told him I was gay.” Honey answered after sighing.
“Oh,” Jackie answered in realization. “Honey, you do realize that you can’t get fired for being gay right?”
“I know, but the insecurity is still there. It’s been ingrained in me Jackie.” Honey replied.
“Well if he understands of where you are coming from, then he will accept it. What’s the worst that can happen?” Jackie said and shrugged. “Legally you can’t lose your job so there really is nothing to worry about.”
“Still, I don’t want to be harassed if he isn’t accepting. Remember John Bradley?” Honey asked.
“Yeah, how can I forget? He was the homophobic kid in our college.” Jackie said.
“What if my coworker turns out to be like him?” Honey asked.
“I think it is just an insecurity baby. However, if you’re that afraid why not ask Tom?” Jackie asked.
“That would be unfair.” Honey admitted.
“Well, what do you want to do?” Jackie asked and ate another spoonful of yogurt.
“I guess I’ll have to tell him the truth and hope for the best.” Honey said and sighed. “Speaking of Tom, we are still meeting him this Saturday to discuss the possibility of him being a sperm donor?”
“Of course, Honey.” Jackie answered.
“Hmm, I love you Jackie!” Honey said.
“The feeling is mutual.” Jackie replied. “Let’s watch a movie together.”
“Okay,” Honey answered.
Jackie finished her yogurt and threw out the container. She picked a movie out of their dvd cabinet and popped it into their tv. She sat down next to Honey and they both cuddled up with each other to watch their movie.

Shout Out To My Brother Zack

Rougher Tides is still undergoing some work. Still, not many people are commenting on here anyway. I'm starting to feel like I'm only talking to myself but that can't be right. I do have 11 subscribers though I wish there were more. I'm assuming most of the people who have bought my novel Intrigued by First Sight have found me through Sarah Ettrich's Online Lesbian Fiction, so maybe I'm just being insecure.
Anyway, I rewrote certain parts of Rougher Tides and added some new chapters which I will be adding up here eventually. If you have bought the book Intrigued By First Sight I would be more than happy if you left me  a review so this way I know for sure if it is worth continuing the series. I also like to know other people's thoughts on my works. This is a selfish thing I guess but I am only human.
So, I just wanted to take the time to share a picture and a video.
From left to right are my brothers Keith Miller, Zack Miller, and of course me, Erin Miller.
On June 7, 2012 my brother Zack Miller has officially graduated High School. I'm proud of him! I even made this little shout out for the kid.

Anyway, Rougher Tides is coming back soon. I hope you are enjoying the story between Honey and Jackie.

Rougher Tides (Chapter Seven)

Jean Hunter switched the television off. Damn that Miller bitch! She had taken Honey from her and now she arrested her cousin? And police brutality too? Ha, perhaps Honey would come back to her after all! No, it was useless to think that. Honey was the type that if she loved someone she would stay. It also didn’t help that Honey had lost her virginity to Jackie so that meant no matter what Jackie would always have a place in Honey’s heart. It was ridiculous. Sex was just sex. Humans can get that from anywhere but Honey and Jackie had been in a relationship for years now. Rare for someone to manage to stay with the first person they had ever had sex with.
Ugh, why was even bothering to think about it? No matter. She had asked to see Honey this Saturday for lunch. She wanted to see Honey by herself but she had insisted on bringing Jackie along. That only meant Honey had something up her sleeve. What was she hiding? She had no idea but she would find out soon enough.
She ran her fingers through her jet black hair and sighed. She got up from her living room couch and picked up a book from the coffee table. It was a bible but the newest version. She read through it seeking joy at the passages contained therein. Ah such a lovely new religious order to be involved in. Something to take her mind off the pain that Honey had caused her, by choosing Jackie and not her. Yes, this book eased her aches.
She looked through the passages smiling. It was rare for anyone to accept her as she was. Still, this religion, this new religion accepted everyone. Yes, this was good. As she read through the pages her mind fluttered over to her disciple John. It had been hard to convert him from his born again Christian indoctrination. Still, it was worth it in the end, after all this new religion had much of the same practices. She smiled to herself. John had proven a great student and he had won her favor. All it took was a night of sex. As much as she hated it, it had won him over in the end. Alas, it was a good thing as she realized she could use sex to win him over. She felt disgusting after sleeping with him but she had won her goal in the end and he thought he was in love with her. Little did he know about her and she preferred to keep it that way. Telling him that she was actually gay would do nothing and would just cause unnecessary fighting. She would rather feed his ego and have him do her bidding. Oh yes, that was the way it had to be. At least until she no longer needed to bed him. Aw well!
She smiled inwardly. Little did he knew when they were sleeping together she was picturing Honey. Alas, that he did not need to know. Still, something had to give or perhaps not. She knew she should move on from wanting Honey since it was never going to happen and perhaps she wasn’t gay after all. Perhaps she actually was bisexual? Otherwise she never would have slept with John. No, she was only sleeping with him to use him. Throwing the man a bone here and there had no standing in her own sexuality. She wanted Honey! Still, Honey had married Jackie and it was clear who Honey had chosen by that action. Jean cringed. She wanted Honey. Still, she had to be respectful but oh how she loathed the Miller woman.
She thought about calling John but for what? There was absolutely no purpose in calling him right now. Did she want to teach him more about their religion? She had ended up a priestess and that was another thing John wasn’t able to accept at first until she let him have his way with her. Men, they were such simple creatures. She shook her head. No, she did not feel like preaching today. There was time enough for that. She looked at her calendar. Saturday wouldn’t come fast enough in her mind.
She walked into her bedroom and opened her closet doors. Inside were her priestess robes which were black with red streaks upon them. No, she had no need to preach today. She closed the doors and went back to her living room. She sat on her couch cross legged and thought about the things to come.
#
On Saturday Honey and Jackie were preparing for their lunch with Jean. Honey was flat ironing her hair and Jackie had just stepped out of the shower with a towel wrapped around her.
“Babe, do you know where I put my socks? I seem to have lost them.” Jackie said.
“They’re at the foot of the bed on the floor.” Honey answered still putting the flat iron through her blond hair and sitting at her vanity table in their bedroom.
Jackie laughed as she found them and then thanked Honey. Honey only nodded. Jackie dried herself off with her towel and then dressed in a pair of jeans and a button up light blue blouse. She looked over at Honey who had dressed in a navy blue dress that went right above her knees. The dress also had light blue trim. Jackie breathed as she gazed upon her wife. Honey was just now starting to apply makeup to her face. Jackie didn’t understand why she did that. Honey was beautiful without makeup but she let Honey continue on anyway.
“So where are we supposed to be meeting up with her?” Jackie asked.
“She said to meet her at Outback Steakhouse.” Honey answered, still doing her makeup.
Jackie nodded. Okay, then. A weird place to meet a friend for lunch but Jean wasn’t exactly the most normal of people. Who knew what went through that woman’s mind at times. She held back a groan. She just hoped Jean didn’t still hate her since Honey chose her and not Jean. It was rather ridiculous if Jean still thought she would have Honey after all these years but with Jean you never knew.
Jackie shook her head softly. If anything Jean could definitely use a mental hospital. She’d never let Honey know that thought though and again that wasn’t fair. In truth she didn’t remember the last time they saw Jean and for all she knew Jean could have changed. She hoped Jean changed and didn’t go on about still wanting Honey. It was never healthy to dwell on unrequited love and Honey had made her choice by marrying her and not Jean. She hoped Jean was able to accept this after all this time. Still, it never hurt to be prepared. She glanced at Honey then and reconsidered. Honey had begged her to be civil. Okay, she would be civil but she wondered how Jean would take it when Honey let her know she was planning on having a child. She shuddered at the thought and finished getting ready.
Once both of them were set to go, Honey quickly embraced Jackie. She looked up into Jackie’s eyes and smiled. Jackie smiled back and noticed the glint in Honey’s eyes. Uh oh! What was Honey up to?
Honey kissed Jackie’s cheek and broke the embrace. She then headed down the stairs into their living room and walked to the back door. Isolde needed to go out and she let the pit bull outside. Jackie followed her curious to the new sensation and wondering what Honey had up her sleeve.
“What mischievous thing are you up too?” Jackie smirked.
“Nothing mischievous at all Jackie.” Honey smiled.
“Uh huh,” Jackie said in a disbelieving tone. “Come on tell me what’s going on?”
“I found someone.” Honey said.
“Found someone for what?” Jackie asked and her heart started racing. She braced herself for the worst.
“I found a sperm donor for our future child.” Honey said proudly. “I just need to know if you’ll agree to it.”
Jackie’s jaw dropped. What? Honey found a sperm donor? It was bad enough having to deal with Jean and now this? What gives? She already agreed she wanted a child with Honey but couldn’t they figure out a sperm donor together? This didn’t make any sense!
“Who?” Jackie said after she regained her bearings.
“Do you remember my friend Tom?” Honey asked. “The one who helped us move in?”
“Yes, how could I forget? Doesn’t he have like four kids now?” Jackie asked.
“Yes, that’s the one. I think he would be a perfect candidate for a sperm donor and you yourself talked about it recently.” Honey smiled.
“Have you talked to him about it?” Jackie asked.
“Not yet. I wanted to talk to you first before making a final decision.” Honey answered.
“What about your health issues?” Jackie asked.
“Oh, no worries there! It’s taken care of.” Honey smiled proudly.
“Wait those natural remedies worked?” Jackie asked incredulous.
“Like a charm Jackie. I’m still using them though. I’m not saying ‘Hey I’m going to get pregnant tomorrow!’ silly. I’m just saying I found a candidate.” Honey explained.
“But why him? Do you know anyone else? I’m not saying “No” but I’m not saying “Yes” either until I know why you want his sperm, regardless that I suggested it to begin with.” Jackie said.
Honey chuckled. Jackie stared at her dumbfounded. What was she missing here?
“Simply, because he would be willing.” Honey said. “Besides the other men I know would rather get me pregnant by having sex with me and I have no intention of cheating on you Jackie.”
“Oh,” Jackie said. She was relieved Honey made it known she would never cheat on her, not that she had to worry about that anyway. Still, it was nice to know. And so the other guys she knew wanted to sleep with her? Strange! Unless they knew she had never slept with a man before and that she had given Jackie her virginity. No, Honey never told them the truth when it came to sex. That just involved way too many temper tantrums from ignorant people.
“So what’s so special about Tom besides that?” Jackie asked.
“Well it would definitely be cheaper than getting inseminated by an anonymous donor and Tom has a clean list of health from what I remember.” Honey explained.
“Ah okay,” Jackie said. At least Honey was looking at the genetics factor. “Are you going to tell Jean this?”
“I was actually thinking about something Jackie.” Honey said.
“What’s that?” Jackie asked.
“Depending on how Jean acts today, I was thinking about making her the god mother of our child.” Honey said.
What? Jean a god mother? Jackie resisted the urge to shake her head. Was Honey insane? Jean was highly unstable from what she remembered. Having her around a child, around their child was ludicrous!
“I don’t necessarily think that’s a good idea.” Jackie stated.
“How come?” Honey asked.
“Well in the past she’s always treated me with disdain and now you want to have a child with me. I just don’t see how we can trust her to be civil with our child.” Jackie explained.
“That’s why we are going to see how today goes baby.” Honey said and lightly brushed Jackie’s arm with her hand. “Besides, Jean is actually really good with children and if something bad ever happened to us, I would want our child well provided for.”
“And you think Jean can do this?” Jackie asked in shock.
“You’d be surprised baby. In school she was always good with kids. It’s something you definitely wouldn’t have expected from her but alas, nothing is always what it seems.” Honey explained softly.
“Yes, I know,” Jackie said and lifted Honey’s face to meet hers. “I admit I’m a little scared about today’s meeting. I just hope we can all be civil with each other.”
“I’m sure Jean has got over her crush on me by now Jackie.” Honey said. “I don’t think we will have anything to worry about. Are you ready to go?”
“Yes, baby.” Jackie said and dropped her hand back to her side.
“Good. I’m driving by the way.” Honey said.
“Okay.” Jackie replied.
#
At the Outback steakhouse the trio had been seated. Their waiter was a tall man who was bald and wore the black garments of the waiters. Honey and Jackie were sitting next to each other and Jean was sitting across from them.
“Hello, my name is Derek. I’ll be your server. Can I get you three anything to drink?” The waiter Derek asked.
“I’ll have a coke.” Jackie responded.
“I’ll have the same.” Honey answered.
“I’ll take a sprite.” Jean replied.
“Okay thank you. I’ll get that right out for you.” Derek said after writing on his notepad and striding away to get them their drinks.
“So Jean, what’s new with you?” Honey asked.
“Oh nothing really Honey. I just wanted to see you is all. How are things with you?” Jean asked.
Jackie nodded to herself. Hmm okay. So maybe Jean was being civil after all. That was good. Perhaps she didn’t have a crush on Honey anymore? Dare she hope for that to be true? She breathed as she took this all in. It was astounding how well behaved Jean was towards her. Or was she doing so simply out of respect for Honey? She didn’t know but she had actually enjoyed herself so far.
Their waiter Derek came back with their drinks. He set each drink respectively in front of the three women and then bought the drink tray back. He came back again and this time took out his pad and pen poised to begin writing their orders down.
“Do you ladies know what you want or do you need more time?” Derek asked politely.
“I’ll have the four ounce steak meal.” Jean said.
“I’ll have the same.” Honey replied.
“Can I just get the cheeseburger meal?” Jackie asked.
“And how would you like that cooked?” Derek asked.
He wrote down their orders again. He nodded to himself and then walked away to place in their orders. Jackie looked at Honey and then at Jean. Honey was beaming with a beautiful smile and Jean had a smile plastered on her face as well. Relief flooded over Jackie instantly. Thank goodness!
“Jean I have something to tell you.” Honey said.
“What’s that Honey?” Jean asked.
“Jackie and I are planning on having a child.” Honey said smiling.
“Oh wow!” Jean said and quickly hid a look of rage. “That’s great. Who’s carrying and when?”
“I’m carrying.” Honey replied. “The ‘when’ will be soon but right now no.”
“Ah I see.” Jean said and then looked at Jackie. “How do you feel about this?”
“I agree to it.” Jackie said proudly. “I think it will be an interesting adventure.”
“Have you ever worked with children before?” Jean asked curiously towards Jackie.
“Honestly no, but I think I will do okay.” Jackie answered perplexed.
“Ah I see. Well congratulations are in order to the future.” Jean said and raised her glass. “A toast to the mothers to be!”
Jackie and Honey raised their own glasses along with Jean. They all smiled at each other and drank to each other’s good health in the coming years. After they set their glasses down Honey looked intently at Jean.
“So are you still working as a cashier?” Honey asked.
“No not anymore. I’ve become a receptionist.” Jean said. “It’s a terrible job but the pay is good.”
“Ah okay.” Honey said.
“What about you Honey?” Jean asked.
“I’m still teaching first grade.” Honey laughed.
“How about you Jackie?” Jean asked.
“I’m still an officer though I do plan on becoming a detective eventually.” Jackie replied.
“What department?” Jean asked.
“I’m not sure yet. I have to think about it still,” Jackie answered.
At that moment Derek came back bearing a tray with their food. He set it down in front of them and set their plates in front of each of them. After he asked if anything more was needed, he took the tray and walked away again.
“I’m happy for both of you.” Jean said successfully hiding her scorn once more. Oh why did this have to happen? First Honey chooses Jackie over her and now wants a child with Jackie? She forced the thoughts out of her mind. Play into the deed at hand. Make them believe you are truly happy for them. Don’t let doubt enter into this playground.
“Thanks Jean!” Honey said and gave a genuine smile. “It means a lot that you are happy for us.”
Jean nodded. Jackie flashed a genuine smile towards her and Jean inwardly cringed. Jackie was still the enemy, no matter what! A thought she would have to keep in mind. Still, Honey wanted to raise a child with her? A child that should have belonged to her and Honey, not Jackie. Okay well, if Honey wanted to play house with Jackie that was fine but she really wanted no part of it. Or perhaps she would grow to love Honey’s child? She had no idea. It was best to put those thoughts aside for now.
“Have you figured out a sperm donor or are you doing it anonymously?” Jean asked.
“I figure Tom might be interested.” Honey answered.
“Ah okay.” Jean said. “Doesn’t he already have four kids now?”
“Well yes, but one more won’t hurt him, especially since he doesn’t have to have financial responsibility with the child I carry.” Honey said.
“But don’t you think he might take that the wrong way? Not all men are willing to give up their sperm.” Jean said.
“Well I intend to ask him and if he doesn’t agree to it I’ll think of something else.” Honey replied.
“How do you feel about this Jackie?” Jean asked.
“I stand behind Honey in this one.” Jackie said proudly. “I think Tom would be ideal as our sperm donor but even if not, we can find someone else.”
“Well good luck to both of you in your future family.” Jean said.
“Thanks Jean. It is appreciated.” Jackie said.
Jean nodded and cut a piece of her steak. She placed it in her mouth and chewed in silence. She saw Honey do the same. She glanced over at Jackie and saw her eating her burger. Then she cut more pieces of her steak and ate. They ate in silence for a brief while and then Jean spoke.
“How are you enjoying teaching Honey? Are the children alright? To work with I mean. I see some of the news reports and it seems these days children are out of control.” Jean said.
“Ah well, children who are out of control normally have neglectful parents. Still, my first grade class is well behaved. I love my children, they do so well much to their parents delight.” Honey said smiling.
“That’s good.” Jean said.
She looked over at Jackie. She really didn’t want to ask her the same. She had locked up her cousin after all. Still, she had to be civil.
“And the police force?” Jean asked Jackie.
“It’s going well.” Jackie said.
“Hmm okay well that’s good.” Jean admitted.
Derek stopped by their table.
“Can I get you ladies anything else?” He asked.
They each asked for a refill of their drinks. Derek nodded and took their cups. After that he strode away to refill their drinks. He bought their glasses back on a tray and set the drinks before them. They each thanked him and he went on his way.
They each finished up their meals. When Derek came by again Jackie asked for the check and took care of it herself. Jean was pleasantly surprised by that offer. Perhaps Jackie wasn’t that bad after all? No! What folly to think such a ridiculous thought! No, no, no. Always keep in mind Jackie was the enemy! She had stolen Honey. That was reason enough to hate her!
Jean smiled at them. She nodded towards Honey and Jackie. She stood up and embraced Honey. Soon, you will be mine! It’s only a matter of time before Jackie screws up and breaks your trust. I just have to wait.
She embraced Jackie although grudgingly and thanked her for the meal. After that she left. Inside she was seething with rage that Honey wanted a child with Jackie but that was okay. It was enough for now. What she was going to do though to win Honey back? Had she ever had her to begin with? She sighed and wanted to be comforted by someone. This whole lie she had set up for herself was frustrating. She was still in love with Honey, so why couldn’t she see that? No matter, she’d go home and figure something else out.
#
Honey drove into their driveway and beamed with a smile. Jackie smiled back at her amused. Jean had proven to be civil towards her. It was something she never would have expected. Alas, people did change didn’t they? This was good! No, this was great!
She got out of the car and headed up to their front door. Honey followed her.
They both headed upstairs to the master bedroom. Honey sighed in pleasure. She zipped down her dress from the back and Jackie breathed. Honey was beautiful and her body glistened in the light. She looked at Honey’s shapely figure. She eyed her every curve and thoughts of loving this woman ran through her mind.
Honey turned to face Jackie and smiled. She knew exactly what Jackie was thinking. She walked over to her lover and threw her arms around her.
“Honey,” she said.
“Come my love,” Honey said. “Today wasn’t that bad after all was it?”
“Not at all! I’m actually pleasantly surprised.” Jackie admitted.
“Good. Good my love.” Honey said and pecked Jackie’s lips with her own.
Then she walked away and got herself comfortable in bed. Jackie looked at her with fascination. She stripped her own clothes and followed suit. Honey cuddled up to her and they slept.

Rougher Tides (Chapter Six)

Jackie was chasing after the criminal after he had dropped his weapons and sign protesting gay marriage and immigration. He had actually assaulted one of the people that had questioned his views and then went so far as to shoot an officer. Jackie was chasing him through the suburban streets wondering why the man had even bothered. He had been going on and on about marriage being between one man and one woman and the whole bible thing that annoyed Jackie to no end. It was funny how religious fanatics chose verses to suit their own purposes but purposely ignored verses that didn’t. Nevertheless, the man was able to protest legally as long as it was a peaceful protest. Once he had started attacking people and crossed that boundary his right was now forfeit.
She pumped her arms to gain speed and dashed forward. The man was proving to be a bit faster but no matter. He had to tire himself soon. He didn’t look like one who did strenuous exercise everyday and Jackie just had to wait for the eventual collapse.
They had run up six blocks and she saw that the man was beginning to falter. Why did they always run after doing something wrong when they knew in the end they’d be caught? It made no sense to her but she was glad for the work out. At least there was a bright side to it! The man fell to his knees panting. Yep, it was about time!
Jackie came up to the man and handcuffed him. She patted him up and down for any concealed weaponry and discarded a pocket knife that was in his pocket. Idiot! That was yet another charge on his rap sheet. In New York you were allowed to carry a knife as long as it wasn’t concealed and the blade wasn’t bigger then the four of your fingers combined.
She suppressed a sigh and dragged him with her. She read the man his Miranda rights as she held him.
“I’m placing you under arrest for battery and assault on both a civilian and a police officer. You are also placed under arrest for resisting arrest. You have the right to remain silent and anything you say or do can and will be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to an attorney and if you can’t afford one the courts will appoint you with legal aide.”
After she said that, she used her one hand to click on her radio. Then she automatically used both hands to keep her prisoner restrained.
“I got him!” she said. “I’m on the corner of 4th street and North Greene Ave.”
“I’m coming up now, over and out.” Elena said.
Elena drove the patrol car up to Jackie and the criminal who had black hair and was actually trying to struggle out of Jackie’s grip. Jackie on the other hand kept control of him and escorted him, although forcefully into the back seat of the patrol car. Elena grinned and looked at the man through the rear view mirror, disgusted. She had no problem with religion herself but people like this man where the reason she had decided not to join into any organized religion. She also didn’t see the problem with two men or two women getting married and she herself was straight. As for immigration, she had no problem with that either as long as it was done right and the test was in English. Then again, America never declared an official language so that could have been one of the issues. Alas, they finally could bring this scumbag to the station. As much as she didn’t agree with his protest, he could have still protested as long as he didn’t become violent. Funny how some protestors turned out to be officially insane. She knew Jackie had something on her mind too. Something was haunting her partner for a while actually, and Elena had figured Jackie would tell her eventually. Still, Jackie gave no word and Elena became worried about her child hood friend.
She drove into the station and Jackie escorted the man in. She had him placed in a holding cell and waited. Elena followed her in and actually got the paperwork they were going to need to file. Jackie had checked the man’s ID card and knew his name was Jacob Hunter. That was weird. It was the same last name as Jean, Honey’s own childhood friend. Nevertheless, Jean had bought herself a cheap house and rarely visited Honey. She had a crush on Honey at one point and it was common knowledge that she hated Jackie because Honey chose her and not Jean. Jackie shook the thought off and continued to do what she needed to do at hand. Besides Hunter was a common last name and it was possible these two had no relation to each other and Jacob didn’t give the same air Jean did.
She filled out the necessary paperwork and filed it. Oh how she hated the paperwork! Aw well, it was a necessary part of her job. The other police would detain Jacob probably slap him a warning and release him. No, they wouldn’t. He had shot a police officer. He was definitely going to be detained.
“Yo, Miller!” Jacob spat.
She turned to face him and indulged the idiocy. What did this guy want?
“I’m gonna get pay back, just wait and see cunt!” Jacob shouted.
One of the other officers rapped the bars.
“That’s enough Hunter!” An officer named Julian shouted. He had wispy blond hair and a lanky build. He nodded towards Jackie and she was relieved. After filing the paperwork and typing it on a computer she clocked out.
She sighed as she got into her car. Elena came up to her just then. She looked at her friend before shutting her car door.
“Yes Elena,” Jackie said.
“Passenger side open? I need to talk to you.” Elena answered.
Jackie only nodded to the passenger side in response. She waited for Elena to get in the car and get herself situated. She tapped her fingers on the dash board and waited.
“What’s the matter Jackie? It’s obvious something’s bothering you?” Elena said, worrying about her childhood friend.
“It’s Honey,” Jackie replied.
“What’s going on with her?” Elena asked curious.
“She wants a child and she was almost diagnosed with ovarian cancer. To be honest I’m not sure what to do.” Jackie admitted.
“Wow, a child?” Elena asked in shock. “That’s a lot to take in. And she was almost diagnosed with ovarian cancer?”
“The gynecologist said it was just ovarian cysts acting up and prescribed Honey birth control. Still, I don’t think cysts can cause you to faint and so far she’s fainted a few times.” Jackie explained.
“Actually, Jackie a person can faint depending on the pain level. If it’s too much for Honey that can cause her to faint.” Elena explained.
“If that’s the case then it makes sense for her not to carry a child, but she’s being so insistent.” Jackie said.
“Sometimes a woman’s biological clock persists. Personally, I’d rather not have a child which is why I use birth control and condoms when I sleep with men. How was Honey planning on getting pregnant anyway?”
“Artificial insemination. You know how hard it is to adopt. I am just worried about Honey because if her body is acting up now, can you imagine what it will be like if she’s pregnant?” Jackie asked incredously.
“Do you even want a child?” Elena asked.
“Well yeah, I mean I never thought about it before but why not?” Jackie asked.
“How do you feel about children?” Elena asked.
“I’m okay with them honestly. Besides, I do want to have a child with Honey but I just don’t want to carry. At the same time I’m not sure Honey’s body would be able to handle it due to her current health issues.” Jackie said.
“You would be amazed!” Elena responded. “What about finding someone to carry for you two?”
“Honey won’t hear of that. She says she’s carrying and that’s all there is to it.” Jackie answered.
“Ah I see.” Elena responded. “Hmm, well that’s something you two will need to talk about.”
“Yeah we’ve talked about it but Honey is just so stubborn. I just hope her doctor’s appointment today went smoothly.” Jackie sighed. “Well I better get home. Do you need a lift?”
“No but thanks anyway.” Elena said.
Elena got out Jackie’s car and left. Jackie watched her friend get into her own car and speed off. Jackie sighed again. She hoped Honey was okay. It would suck if Honey came home and had yet another health issue. The way things were going lately though, she wouldn’t be surprised. She loved Honey but deep down she knew the doctors were hiding something as much as she didn’t want to admit it.
On her drive home she stopped at a store and bought a bouquet of flowers for Honey. She figured it would be a small little token to show Honey affection. Still, she hoped the doctor appointment went well.
Once she pulled up in her driveway, she put the car in park and shut off the engine. She got out and walked into her house, not surprised to see Honey typing away at her computer. Her book perhaps? However, she didn’t see the normal word document. Instead Honey was watching a documentary on her computer. What documentary she had no idea but nevertheless she walked in and hugged Honey while she was still seated in her chair.
“Hi baby,” Jackie smiled.
“Hi babe.” Honey replied.
“So what are you watching?” Jackie asked.
“A documentary on natural healing methods.” Honey explained.
Jackie gulped. Was her fear true? Did the doctors not diagnose her correctly? Was Honey turning into a conspiracy theorist because of it? She didn’t know.
“That’s interesting.” Jackie replied. “How did your doctor appointment go?”
“Horrible!” Honey stated simply.
“What happened?” Jackie asked.
“They wanted to keep me on birth control and after another six weeks and if I didn’t heal they want to see about removing my uterus.” Honey said and turned to face Jackie. “I don’t want that to happen so I’ve been looking up natural remedies.”
“I thought birth control was supposed to have helped with the cysts?” Jackie asked confused.
“It did help with the cysts but they think I might have ovarian cancer again and they want me to go through more annoying tests. I’m sick of it Jackie! I really am!” Honey cried out as she turned around to face Jackie.
“Wait this doctor now sounds like a quack to me. If you had to get your uterus removed we would have known by now wouldn’t we?” Jackie asked, puzzled.
Jackie then placed the bouquet of flowers on Honey’s desk. She looked into Honey’s green eyes and saw worry in them. She couldn’t blame her. She was worried herself. Damn doctors!
“Not all doctors are bad Honey. Perhaps you should just try a different doctor?” Jackie asked.
“I actually want to try the natural remedies first. If they don’t work then I will go to a new doctor but until then I want to do this!” Honey said stubbornly.
“You do know marijuana is still prohibited right?” Jackie asked.
“It’s not weed I need Jackie. I’ve been watching numerous documentaries since I got home on natural healing. It’s amazing what is out there.” Honey said.
“Just be careful Honey. Not all the information out there is legit.” Jackie said softly.
Honey got up and hugged Jackie close to her. Jackie held her back and enjoyed her wife’s embrace. Honey kissed Jackie’s lips and gazed into her eyes. A feeling of warmth enveloped Jackie as she returned Honey’s gaze. This woman she held in her arms, strong, willful, persistent, and stubborn. Oh how she loved Honey.
“I’ll be careful Jackie,” Honey said and laid her head down on Jackie’s shoulder.
“Okay Honey,” said Jackie. “I worry about you.”
“I know you do my love but I will be okay.” Honey said. “By the way, who did you arrest today?”
“A violent protestor, why?” Jackie asked.
“He was on the news. So were you. They said the man was facing police brutality.” Honey said.
“What?” Jackie demanded. “The man shot an officer and resisted arrest.”
“It just goes to show that the mainstream media lies.” Honey responded. “You do need a shower though.”
“Well yes the mainstream media lies but I never thought they would go that far.” Jackie said in disbelief.
“What was he protesting?” Honey asked and broke away from Jackie’s embrace.
“He was protesting same sex marriage being legal and he also had a problem with immigration.” Jackie explained.
“Ah that explains it.” Honey said.
“Explains what?” Jackie asked.
“Why the news was the way it was,” Honey replied.
Jackie nodded with new understanding. Okay, so that was it? Damn this country of corporate liars. Some freedom America had! She shook the thought away. Any other country she probably wouldn’t have been free to even think that. In a way America was a free country but still there were certain freedoms that still had to be fought for. She sighed.
“Jean called. She wants us to get together for lunch on Saturday.” Honey said.
Jean? The woman who had a crush on Honey and hated Jackie because of it? Great! Just fantastic!
“Okay,” Jackie replied. “But if she starts something with me I’m not holding back!”
“Jackie please!” Honey pleaded. “Be civil with her. For me?”
Jackie looked at Honey again. Her wife’s eyes pleaded with her to reconsider. Finally she sighed and relented.
“Okay Honey,” Jackie answered. “But you owe me big time for this one. Jean hates me because you chose me you know and not her.”
“I’m sure she will get over it Jackie,” Honey said and touched the side of Jackie’s face. “I love you! She has to understand that by now.”
“I hope so!” Jackie said.
“And Jackie?” Honey asked.
“Yes Honey?” Jackie asked in turn.
“Once I have this current issue taken care of, I still want a child with you.” Honey said.
Jackie gulped. Honey still wanted a child after all this? Okay then! Well, whatever was wrong with Honey she would have to take care of herself first. Still worry nagged Jackie like a vicious dog. The quack doctors wanted to take out her uterus. So if the doctors were right would Honey not be able to carry children at this point? Honey so desperately wanted a child too. Jackie didn’t mind but the repercussions were astounding. Honey’s health issues, the fact that they were a same sex couple, the media, and what else? She didn’t know. She just headed up the stairs and into the shower. Perhaps something would give eventually.

Rougher Tides (Chapter Five)

One Sunday morning, Jackie had taken Isolde out in the backyard. Honey was still sleeping and Jackie just left her alone. Isolde did what she had to do outside and ran back up to Jackie with a tennis ball in her mouth. Honey had bought Isolde dog toys recently and the pit bull never seemed to tire. Jackie smiled.
“Drop it!” she told Isolde and the pit bull didn’t listen.
Instead Isolde came up to Jackie in a playful stance with the ball still in her mouth. Jackie sighed. She then wrestled with Isolde to get the tennis ball. To any outsider watching it was a funny sight as the dog pinned Jackie down after a while and dropped the ball onto Jackie’s chest. Jackie smiled and laughed at that.
“Okay, okay Isolde.” Jackie said still laughing and petting the dog’s head.
Isolde got off her and she stood up. She picked up the ball and threw it. Isolde ran after it and jumped up into the air. The dog caught the ball with her mouth and ran back to Jackie. They ended up playing fetch all morning.
When Honey eventually woke up she had spotted Jackie playing fetch outside with Isolde. She smiled. She was wearing her pale green bathrobe and she held a mug in her hands. It was an amusing sight to see Jackie and Isolde together.
She stepped outside on the deck and waited. Eventually Isolde came running up to her and Honey laughed as she stooped down to pet Isolde’s head. Jackie came up to her at that point.
“Morning,” Jackie said.
“Morning,” Honey replied.
“Isolde gives you a good workout.” Jackie chuckled.
“That’s good.” Honey said still petting Isolde. “I was thinking about what you said.”
“What’s that?” Jackie asked.
“About opening a joint savings account. I think we should.” Said Honey.
“What made you change your mind?” Jackie asked.
“Well, we have been together for over five years now and we’ve been married for one year so far. We pretty much know everything about each other.” Honey explained.
“But what does that have to do with opening a joint savings account?” Jackie asked confused.
“Well, I wanted to ask you something along those lines. Since I’m agreeing we should open a joint savings account, I think we should put some money aside for a future child’s college fund.” Honey explained. “Also, I don’t think we need that much money so we can probably donate some of it to charity.”
“You still want a child?” Jackie asked. Damn! She was hoping Honey reconsidered. She didn’t want her wife stressed out with a pregnancy and with the current health issues she was having she thought the idea of them having a child was insane. However, she did respect that Honey wanted to donate some of what Jackie considered their money to charity.
“Yes, Jackie,” Honey said. “Though not until after I get this current issue fixed.”
“So artificial insemination then?” Jackie asked.
“Eventually, I’ll just have to figure out who would be willing to donate sperm.” Honey admitted.
“I thought sperm donors were anonymous.” Jackie said.
“Usually, but I figure if we find someone we know it would be on the cheaper side.” Honey explained.
“Hmm, what about your friend Tom? Would he be willing to donate?” Jackie asked.
“Tom?” Honey asked. “Well, I never asked him about it but I guess I could talk to him about that.”
“I think you should take care of your current health issue first though.” Jackie said.
“Yes, of course Jackie,” Honey said annoyed. “I could have told you that one!”
“Relax baby, I didn’t mean to offend.” Jackie said.
Isolde barked and both Jackie and Honey looked down. The couple smiled at their dog.
“I have one question that I think both of us forgot to consider.” Jackie said.
“What’s that?” Honey asked.
“We forgot to ask if Isolde is good with children.” Jackie explained.
“Well you can find that out today Jackie.” Honey said.
“What? How?” Jackie asked.
“You’re taking Isolde to the park.” Honey explained.
Jackie looked at Honey stunned. What? How was that going to answer their shared question? She didn’t get it.
“I’m a bit confused by that.” Jackie explained.
“Well you’re going to the park today with Isolde. She needs to run around a bit and I’m sure you can use a change of scenery.” Honey said.
“What are you going to do?” Jackie asked.
“I have my students’ papers to grade. I slacked off on that earlier this weekend plus I’m going to write more to my novel.” Honey said.
“Why not come with me after you grade your students’ papers?” Jackie asked. “Going to the park may give you some inspiration to your story and I can’t remember a day we didn’t just enjoy each other’s company on an outing.”
“This is one of the many reasons why I love you!” Honey said and touched the side of Jackie’s face.
She shared a quick peck on Jackie’s lips and headed back inside to grade her students papers. Jackie continued to play fetch again with Isolde until the pit bull eventually tired. Jackie came back in and got herself something to eat while Honey looked over her students papers at her desk in the den area. Jackie stared at her wife for a brief while. Honey had on reading glasses and was still in her bathrobe. She was also listening to a favored music artist while she worked. What was the band called? Within Temptation was it? Honey marked one paper and put it to the side and this followed suit for a while. Jackie knew Honey had to make this week’s lesson plan for her first grade class as well. It was interesting. She never thought she’d be married to a teacher. On the flip side, she knew Honey never expected to be marred to a police officer either. Jackie smiled as she ate her salad. She loved Honey and reveled in the joy their relationship bought to her. How could she not love someone so special? Later on their day would only get better. Still the nagging thing in her mind was that Honey had a health issue that the doctors weren’t solving. They hadn’t had sex in a long time and Honey hadn’t even tried too. It was weird because it was normally Honey that had the high sex drive in their relationship and now it was an afterthought. Jackie attributed this to the cysts. She briefly remembered that Honey’s doctor said that sex would only make the cysts issue worse. That had to be it right? She would not think of the stereotypical lesbian bed death in their relationship. That was a societal thing and had no place in their home!
She shook her head of the thought and regarded it as selfish. Honey had a health issue and they just extended their family to include their pit bull Isolde. She was a playful pit bull and Jackie laughed when she saw the dog climb up onto the living room couch and settle herself there with one of the indoor toys the dog had. It was a rope chew toy and Isolde busied herself with it.
Jackie nodded in spite of herself. As long as Isolde didn’t ruin their furniture she could stay there all she wanted. Jackie then went into the basement. As a Christmas gift one year Honey had managed to get her a makeshift gym set. It wasn’t an extravagant gift but Jackie loved it nevertheless! She began using the generic gym and worked out.
#
At the park the two lovers only smiled at each other. Jackie had a tight hold of the leash but Isolde was a happy dog. Jackie smiled at that. She didn’t understand Honey’s logic about seeing how Isolde was with children at a park but she had relented and decided to just go along with it.
It proved to be a useful adventure because although Jackie was afraid of the consequences Isolde proved to be a mush towards children. She licked the happy children’s faces as she played with them. The children in the park were delighted with Isolde and Jackie started thinking about becoming a parent with Honey. Why not? They could have a son or a daughter that would happily play with Isolde and it would benefit their family as a whole. Still, Honey had her health issue to take care of first. Jackie thought about that too. Would Honey still be able to bear a child after this? Well there was only one way to find out and soon enough they would know for sure.
Jackie looked over at Honey. Honey was smiling at their dog and the children. However, something was amiss. Honey looked at one of the children in shock.
“Ms. Miller?” the child, a sand colored hair and brown eyed boy asked.
“Jake?” Honey said. Honey looked at the parents then.
“Hello Mr. and Mrs. Henderson.” Honey greeted.
“Hello, Ms. Miller. It’s a delight to see you here. Is she your sister?” Mr. Henderson asked and acknowledged Jackie.
“Um yes,” Honey said quickly. “We’re just taking our dog out.”
“That’s interesting that two sisters can be so close. I’m happy for you.” Ms. Henderson responded. “We’re also amazed at Jake’s progress. We never knew our son was so gifted.”
“Every child is gifted in their own way,” Honey responded.
“Yes, well we see Jake’s progress as a gift.” Ms. Henderson replied. “Excuse my manners I’m Stephanie Henderson.” She introduced herself to Jackie.
Jackie shook her hand and then shook Mr. Henderson’s hand who introduced himself as Carl. Carl had the same sand colored hair as his son Jackie noticed. Interesting!
“I’m Jackie Miller. As you know already Honey and I are sisters.” Jackie said knowing that they had to hide the fact that they were actually a married couple. She wouldn’t want something like a simple meeting to ruin Honey’s career. Although New York state law said that no one could be fired based on sexual orientation she had seen too much underhand discrimination in her own field to risk either of their jobs.
“Pit bulls are normally conceived as dangerous.” Ms. Henderson said. “I’m glad to see that an educator such as yourself doesn’t fit in with societal backlash of pit bulls.”
“Ah well, every animal has the tendency for fight or flight.” Honey responded. “And sometimes it does depend on environmental factors of why an animal has a mean tendency but not always.”
“Ah, an educator after my own heart.” Mr. Henderson said and then turned to his wife. “Don’t worry dear no one can ever replace you.”
“It was good to see you two.” Honey said.
“Nice to meet you two.” Jackie responded.
The Hendersons went on their merry way. Honey was beginning to fidget and was exasperated. Jackie saw her lover’s hands begin to shake.
“Honey?” she asked concerned.
“I can’t stand this anymore.” Honey lamented.
“What’s wrong?” Jackie asked.
“Everything. The whole damn world! I hate having to introduce you as my sister, my friend, or as my husband when I talk about you at work. I want to be able to one day not have to worry about the repercussions and just introduce you as my wife! What’s so wrong about that?” Honey cried.
“Society is very strict.” Jackie explained patiently. “We’ve come a long way especially since the Stone Wall Riots and more but we still aren’t where we need to be yet. It will take time but we’ll come through.”
“That’s what people have been saying Jackie.” Honey said. “But people don’t fight and we won’t get to where we need to be unless people step up and take action.”
“So why don’t you step up and take action?” Jackie asked.
“Because I could lose my job! I work with children.” Honey said. “Fighting for what’s right in my case will lead to career suicide.”
“You do know not everyone hates us right Honey? You do realize you actually can’t get fired for being gay and that DOMA has been repealed?” Jackie asked.
“I know that. I just don’t want to hide anymore. I don’t want to censor myself. I want to be able to introduce you as who you really are. I want to be able to say, ‘This is Jackie and we’re married.’ I want to be able to go to a family outing and not be silenced when I say I am married to a woman. I also want people to stop thinking I hate men just because I’m married to you. I want those things Jackie. Why can’t I have those? Why do I have to censor myself in light of people’s ignorance? It’s not like I want to suck face and have sex with you in public, I just want to be able to introduce you as who you really are to me. I also know it’s a societal issue but I have faced discrimination before and I’m not entirely trusting.” Honey explained.
“I want the same things as well Honey. Believe me I do.” Jackie said softly. “But it may not happen for a while. It’s best not to cry over it. Either we can do something about it and make sacrifices or we can let someone else step up to the plate. Either way, we have a life to live; we have to make the best of it. Anyway, as I said before it is just a social issue with you. You’re protected under the law. It’s not like it was ten years ago.”
The two walked into a trail with Isolde. Honey was still brooding and Jackie worried for her well being. It’s true their society wasn’t accepting as them as she would have liked but that didn’t mean they couldn’t live a happy life with each other.
Honey seemed to becoming lighter spirited as she took Isolde’s leash and the dog led her through the trail. Jackie smiled. Yes, with the exception of what happened earlier, although she was in agreement with Honey, today was a pleasant day. She figured once they got home she’d do something special for her lover. That would take both their minds off of Honey’s insecurities.
It was funny how so many people could be so against something. She remembered one time when her friend Elena had bought home a black man as her prom date. Her parents got so pissed at her and her date and just because he was black and not white. At the time Jackie didn’t understand what the big deal was. So what if he was black. It’s just a skin color and didn’t mean Elena’s date was any different, but Elena’s parents refused to accept the relationship much to Elena’s dismay. Imagine if they ever found out she was a homosexual woman. Yeah, she’d probably get the same treatment. Aw well! Elena’s parents could go live and wallow in their bigotry for all she cared. She did also note that her mother was homophobic. Well, that was her loss if she didn’t want to accept Jackie for who she loved. Jackie loved Honey and in her mind and heart, there was no room for anyone else.
They continued walking on their trail, enjoying each other’s company. It was a good Sunday for them both and she was extremely happy about the time they were spending together. She really wanted to hold Honey close to her and kiss her but she waited before acting on that feeling.
#
Once they got back home, Jackie was pleasantly surprised. Honey took her in her arms and kissed her passionately. Jackie held Honey back kissing just as passionately and feeling the stirrings in her heart and in her groin for this woman she loved so much. Honey pushed Jackie onto their living room couch and slipped a hand up Jackie’s shirt cupping her breast while still kissing her. Jackie slid her own hand up Honey’s shirt and unlatched her bra and pulled it off Honey with practiced skill. She ran her hand up and down Honey’s back while groping her breasts with her other hand.
Honey dominated Jackie while she was on top of her. She unbuttoned Jackie’s jeans and slid her fingers inside of Jackie’s underwear teasing her clitoris. Jackie breathed and kissed Honey even harder, enjoying this moment. Honey kissed Jackie’s neck and began to trace the counters of Jackie’s body with her free hand. She loved how she knew every familiar inch of Jackie’s body, every spot to touch that turned her on even more. She pulled Jackie’s pants down to her knees at that point and put her head between Jackie’s legs. Jackie moaned in ecstasy as she held on to the side of the couch with one hand and had her other hand on Honey’s head stroking her hair and trying her hardest not to cling on to Honey’s head. Honey’s tongue played teasingly with Jackie’s clit and she also sucked upon Jackie’s vaginal lips. Jackie was in heaven with Honey’s touch as she reached orgasm and couldn’t think of anything else more pleasurable than that moment. She loved Honey, her one true love and wife. She moaned out her name as Honey continued to use her tongue on her.
Honey climbed back up on top of Jackie after that. She hugged Jackie close and kissed her lips fondly. She gazed into Jackie’s blue eyes and both of them smiled at each other.
“I love you Jackie!” Honey said.
“I love you too, Honey!” Jackie replied. “Always!”
Jackie loved how Honey’s smile seemed to brighten each time she looked upon her. Smiling herself, she led Honey under her. Honey only complied and kissed Jackie’s mouth. She held Jackie close to her and Jackie kicked her jeans off. She peeled Honey’s clothes off her one by one. All the while she still managed to kiss Honey passionately. She began to go down on Honey but she stopped short.
“Honey?” Jackie asked. “Is it safe for me to do this to you?”
“What do you mean?” Honey asked.
“Your cysts and everything? I just don’t want to hurt you is all.” Jackie said.
Honey pulled Jackie atop her and looked her in the eyes. She seemed to search them longingly for a while and then sighed.
“Jackie,” Honey answered. “If I didn’t want to continue I would have ended this sooner.”
“But what about your cysts?” Jackie asked.
“You’re right to worry but I’m just so sick of it. Four to six weeks without your touch is too long for me Jackie.” Honey said and kissed her lover on the mouth again.
“But isn’t there a risk if we have sex while you still have the cysts?” Jackie asked.
“We take risks each time we have sex Jackie.” Honey said.
“How?” Honey asked confused.
“Something I researched. It could be wrong so don’t take my word for it but supposedly women get cysts all the time before their menstrual cycles or something like that.” Honey said.
“Are you sure you looked at a reputable source?” Jackie questioned.
“Possibly not, but I wanted to try to find something to justify going against doctor orders and having sex with you.” Honey said.
“Well at least you’re honest about it,” Jackie said and laughed.
Honey smiled. She kissed Jackie again and wrapped her arms around her. Jackie kissed her back and rested her head on Honey’s chest.
“Honey?” she said with her head still on Honey’s chest.
“Hmm?” Honey replied.
“I have a question that’s really going to throw off the mood right now but I need to ask it.” Jackie said.
“Baby the mood was killed the moment you asked about cysts. Now what’s up?” Honey said.
“Okay,” Jackie murmured. “I was thinking about something. If you still want a kid would you still be able to carry a child?”
“Wow, if the mood wasn’t thrown off earlier it definitely is now.” Honey said. “To answer your question I don’t see why I can’t. I’ll know for sure once I visit my doctor again though and ask. Jackie do you want a kid?”
“Well you said you wanted one,” Jackie said.
“I wouldn’t have a child if you wouldn’t agree to it Jackie.” Honey said. “We’re married to each other so my choices affect both our lives I would think.”
“I think we should have a kid,” Jackie said. “But I’m not carrying.”
Honey laughed and stroked her lover’s light brown hair. She kissed the top of Jackie’s head and looked up at the ceiling while still stroking Jackie’s hair.
“Hmm,” she said aloud. “It will definitely change our lives, having a child and all. Not to mention we just got a dog.”
“Yes, but seeing the way you were with those children today, I don’t see why we shouldn’t have our own little family.” Jackie explained.
“We have our own little family right now though.” Honey said. “There is you, me, and our dog Isolde. Besides, kids eventually grow up and live on their own.”
“Yes I know that, but I think raising a child with you would be an interesting adventure,” Jackie admitted.
“We would still need to find a sperm donor Jackie,” Honey said. “Besides we can talk more about this later. Are you hungry?”
“Um okay and yeah a little bit.” Jackie said.
“I’m going to order some Chinese food.” Honey said.
“I have a better idea,” Jackie replied.
“What’s that?” Honey asked.
“I’m going to cook something for us.” Jackie said.
“Oh dear!” Honey said with worry in her voice and her eyes widened. The last time she let Jackie have use of the kitchen Jackie had almost caused a fire and she was only making grilled cheese sandwiches. Not good! Still, she let Jackie get up and put her clothes back on. She did the same and followed Jackie into the kitchen.
“So what do you plan on making?” Honey asked.
“It’s a surprise. Go take Isolde outside and I’ll tell you when it’s done!” Jackie said proudly.
“Um you do remember what happened last time you cooked right?” Honey asked.
“That was a fluke. This time is different!” Jackie said smiling.
“Promise me you won’t cause another fire?” Honey asked.
“I promise!” Jackie said smiling.
Honey nodded. She took Isolde outside per Jackie’s request. Still she worried about Jackie. She hoped she wouldn’t have to put out yet another fire. She thought about banning Jackie from their kitchen but that wasn’t right. Let Jackie make whatever she wanted too. She just hoped there would be no dire consequences because of it. She sighed as she watched Isolde run around their yard.

Jackie kept true to her promise and Honey was pleasantly surprised. Jackie had set the table and lit a few candles. A candle lit dinner huh? Where was Jackie learning to become so romantic like this? She wondered about this to herself but nevertheless she beamed that Jackie took the pains to set this up for them. Jackie had cooked shrimp scampi and Honey didn’t even remember buying the food the last time she and Jackie had gone food shopping. Still, she smiled. Jackie was a bit clumsy in her set up but nevertheless she was delighted at her lover for doing this.
“So, I hope you like it.” Jackie said smiling.
Uh oh! She knew Jackie’s cooking from experience was less than desirable but she forced herself to keep her smile on. Jackie sat down next to her after she lit the candles and dug in. If anything at least Jackie ate. She smiled at Jackie briefly and finally braved taking a bit of the shrimp scampi from her own plate. She was again surprised for it was actually good. She took a few more forkfuls much to Jackie’s delight.
“I think it’s safe to say you like it.” Jackie grinned.
“Where did you learn to make this?” Honey asked.
“It’s a secret!” Jackie teased.
“Oh come on baby.” Honey teased back. “I really want to know!”
“Nope, chef’s secret rule number one: don’t tell the fan the recipe or something like that.” Jackie said crossing her arms against her chest and her face broke out into a wide grin.
“Ha, ha!” Honey laughed. “Please tell me?”
“You’ll never believe it.” Jackie said.
“Oh come on tell me.” Honey said.
“Promise you won’t get mad?” Jackie asked.
“After you pulled out all these stops for a romantic candle lit dinner? How can I be mad?” Honey asked.
“Well, it was left over’s from Elena’s house so I didn’t actually cook it. And I came up with the idea to do this for you so I could show you how special you are to me.” Jackie said and winked.
“Baby,” Honey melted at Jackie’s comment.
She got up and sat in Jackie’s lap and kissed her. Jackie held her close reveling in Honey’s nearness to her. Honey stroked Jackie’s brown hair and smiled while looking into her lover’s eyes.
“Baby,” Honey said. “You know you don’t have to do anything special for me but I do appreciate the sentiment.”
She kissed Jackie’s neck and felt her lover tingle with pleasure. Honey ran a finger down the back of Jackie’s neck and spine and Jackie breathed into Honey’s neck. Honey breathed herself feeling the hotness of Jackie’s breath upon her. She undid her pants and led Jackie’s hand inside her underwear. Jackie followed suit and Honey began to moan as Jackie worked her fingers inside her. Honey’s body moved accordingly but she forced herself still while Jackie was inside her. She kissed Jackie and nibbled her lip followed by kissing Jackie’s neck. She nibbled Jackie’s ear and then kissed her passionately once more.
“Jackie,” she breathed into Jackie’s neck.
“I love you Honey,” Jackie murmured.
“I love you too Jackie, but you need to stop.” Honey said.
Jackie looked at Honey and saw the look of pain registered on Honey’s face. She pulled her hand out of Honey’s pants.
“Honey are you okay?” Jackie asked worried.
“Apparently, I should have waited. I’m sorry Jackie.” Honey said.
“It’s okay Honey, no need to be sorry. Do you need a hospital again?” Jackie asked.
“No, no more hospitals. I just want to rest for now.” Honey replied.
Jackie nodded. She lifted Honey in her arms and carried her to their bedroom. She placed Honey on the bed, kissed her forehead and was about to walk out the door.
“Jackie,” Honey said and got up. She took her pants off and unhooked her bra. “Come lie with me. No sex, just cuddle with me.”
Jackie walked back and took off her own pants. She then unhooked her bra and joined Honey in their bed. Honey snuggled up to Jackie and Jackie placed an arm around her. Honey fell asleep in Jackie’s embrace. Jackie only looked upon Honey and only worried. There had to be something more than cysts but as she thought that she shook her head. Don’t turn this into more than what it is Jackie. It will only get better, it has too.
